The Glass City Wranglers are thrilled to announce the addition of Terry Awls to our coaching staff as an assistant coach. Coach Awls brings a wealth of experience, a passion for basketball, and a deep commitment to the Toledo community.
A true community role model, dedicated basketball coach, and devoted family man, Awls's impact extends far beyond the basketball court. He has served on the boards of several impactful non-profit organizations, including the ProMedica Children's Hospital Foundation Board, the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Ohio, and the African American Leadership Council for the United Way. He also established the Joyce Lee Awls Memorial Scholarship to support students pursuing careers in hospitality, a testament to his dedication to education and his late mother's memory.
With over 20 years of coaching experience, Awls has earned his USA Gold basketball certification and Interscholastic Certification through the National Federation of High Schools. His impressive resume includes being inducted into the 2009 Birmingham Hall of Fame class, a 2013 Jefferson Award nominee, and the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award for Community and Business from Morrison R. Waite High School.
Awls's coaching journey has led him to Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, where he served as an assistant coach. Now, he's ready to take his coaching career to the next level with the Glass City Wranglers, bringing his extensive knowledge and passion for the game to our professional team.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Awls to the Wranglers family," said Owner Joshua Radtkin. "His experience, dedication, and commitment to the community align perfectly with our team's values. We believe he will be a tremendous asset to our players and our organization."
Coach Awls and his wife, Annika, are proud residents of Toledo, Ohio, and are raising their blended family of five children in the community. Awls's commitment to philanthropy was recognized in 2018 when he was nominated for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man of the Year.
The Glass City Wranglers are confident that Coach Awls will make a significant contribution to our team's success both on and off the court. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to a great season!
